Blast Freezers

Blast Freezers are here to optimise the temperature in your workspaces. They work in tandem with food, products, and other goods to maintain a sense of containment and control. You can find blast freezers in industries across the board, including food/retail, hospitality, logistics and the pharmaceutical space. These industries rely on not just accurate, but robust solutions for storing and preserving perishable goods. With so many blast freezer containers that are readily available, how does someone make the right choice on selecting the right one that fits your specific needs? Good question, this blog will seek to unpack industrial freezer containers, freezing your questions as we go and preserving your knowledge, so like your goods – It’s fresh.

Blast Freezers are advanced

Blast Freezers are usually a portable unit that maintains freeze control. To maintain the integrity of perishable items, a blast freezer is there to control the temperature, in a quick and efficient way.

Where blast freezers are set apart and exceedingly differ from normal freezers is their key feature which is having a very powerful fan. These sophisticated temperature units are there to decrease temperatures to as low as -40°C, with some very specialized ones reaching -70°C. As the temperature of food or goods lowers, the formation of ice crystals occurs, all in all maintaining the taste and overall integrity of the product.  It all depends on what you will be utilising these freezing capacities for, of course. This will determine what features are right for you when choosing your blast freezer container.

Temperature matters

First up, it’s paramount that you pick your industrial freezing container based on what it will be used for. Here, you will need to know the temperature range for what’s required to keep your goods in optimal condition. Below are some common ideas for how to gauge this:

Products:

  • Pharmaceuticals: -20°C to -80°C (for medications, biological samples, vaccines)
  • Food World: –18°C to -40°C (prime for most meats, frozen meals and seafood etc)
  • Warehouse/Logistics Industry: -25°C to -35°C (frozen food to be distributed, bulk storage etc).

 Top of mind: Accurate measurements:

So you want to install a blast freezer container? First off, think about the space you will need to put the industrial freezer container in – how narrow, wide or spacious is it? It’s vital that you use some measuring equipment to block out the space so you can be confident it’s correct. We even suggest measuring twice– just so you know that everything will fit properly. For instance are there any tight corners that the unit would need to fit around and are there any obstructions like doors that could be in the way? These are all things to consider.

Determine the size.

Whether you want to deck out a restaurant, prep food in a larger kitchen, or store medication, there is a blast freezer container for you. Countertop blast freezers work best for bakeries and smaller workstations. Then a step up, Under-Counter blast freezers are slightly bigger, ideal for moderate freezing processes. Freestanding blast freezers allow for a robust workspace but have a higher energy output than the other two.

Know your modes: Hard,  Soft and Pre-Chill.

If you want to preserve food with a high water content then you should opt for the soft chill cycle. This way your food will not be dehydrated and maintain its freshness. This is often used for foods that are more fragile such as fruits, vegetables and fish. If you want a one size fits all approach, then hard chill is suitable for most food items (including meat, sauces, potatoes etc). Pre- chill is designed to be extremely efficient as it makes sure there is an optimum temperature achieved even before the chilling takes place.

Features that are an extra plus

You will find that a vast majority of blast freezer containers do a similar job, however there are more premium features that can be quite efficient for you when considering a bigger operation.

On some blast freezers you will find:

Automatic shut-offs at the end of cycles: When a freezing cycle has been completed, the blast freezer turns itself off. Here, there is no need for manual modifying.

Touch control panel: Simply navigate the settings at a touch.

Digital memory settings: If you have a usual or common temperature that you wish to have ready at a certain time, you can do so efficiently and key this in.
